PE & Sports Funding
Scorton Primary School is a Silver AFPE Award holder ! This recognises our work in developing healthy lifestyles, promoting physical activity and sporting competition. In 2019 -2020 we are aiming to achieve the School Sports Gold Award which will recognise our work in the quality of PE and range of sports and activities offered to all our children, levels of engagement and participation.
We are very fortunate to have different areas around our school where children can be active during their playtimes. We have a purpose built multi use games area on site, our nature area provides a natural environment where children can den build, imaginative play and run in the woodland space. The large wheeled toy area is full of exciting bikes, trikes and scooters. The grassed area provides space for using the trim track and a small football pitch. There is also a climbing wall and space for small ball games.
On the playground children enjoy using the smaller play equipment, balls, hoops and target games as well as playing netball, basketball and using our table tennis table. There are also spaces for quiet time. Our Year 6 pupils run their own sessions each week to lead play activities and games for the younger children during lunchtime.
The Sports Premium Grant has enabled Scorton School to join the Garstang Sports Partnership. This gives access to specialist coaching, competitive tournaments, staff training and Inset and the opportunity for our pupils to train and compete with their peers from other local schools. A detailed breakdown of the ways in which we use our Sports Premium Funding is provided below
All pupils have at least 2 PE lessons each week. We are also able to provide swimming lessons throughout the year at Garstang Swimming Pool. In 2018-2019 our school enjoyed taking part in 14 competitive events and we won the following: indoor football, outdoor football, handball, tennis, athletics and rounders. The document below shows the development plan for PE in our school and a review of the previous year.
