Grizedale Class – Summer
Our Learning This Term
Here is our summer term parent leaflet to show you what we will be covering in class.
This term in maths we are covering a wide range of topics including: shape, time, volume, capacity, coordinates, statistics and money.
We will continue to improve on our skills with number and make sure we are confident with all of our formal written methods as well as our times tables. To help us with this we will be continuing to do weekly Big Maths sessions.
Our focus will remain on reasoning and problem solving with special focus on how to explain our mathematical understanding in words and diagrams as well as with number.
Any extra work on times tables and extra maths support at home is always useful and of great benefit to your child.
This term in English we will be covering a number of different genres to help our breadth of study. We will be studying fairy tales and using what we learn to help us write our own. We will then going on to work on how to write to persuade, how to write exciting myths and composing poetry for performance.
We will continue to read daily and complete daily spelling sessions as well as having focused grammar lessons every week.
Our reading miles challenge has been a great success with some children completing their journey around the globe already and now making their way around for a second time! Keep up the good work!
In science this term we will be exploring the fascinating world of living things and their habitats. We will explore the habitats in our local environment, discover what lives nearby, find out about different classifications of animals and keep a nature diary through the summer. We will add photos as we go to show what we have found!
